(I've been in Japan for 10 years) This is one of the best place for Tempura! It may be a bit hard to order if you can't read Japanese. But the owner is nice enough to guide you making orders. And, his KABUKI act is one of the best part of this tempura place when he deep fries Tamago. My recommandation is Tempura Tamago(egg) plate, which costs about ¥1,600. The fried egg on the rice is like never tasted before. There are two tastes, sweet sauce or soy source. For me, soy sauce fits better. But you can order another Tamago with different sauc, so don't worry. Anyway, if you love Tempura, thos is the must-go place.

Extremely delicious tempura. Head chef is very welcoming and good humoured guy. He even knew that Tempura was originally created by the Portuguese, known as "peixinhos da horta". They don't speak any english but communication is fine. Do note that you'll have to wait quite a bit as the queue gets quite large. Overall, an amazing meal.

Highly recommended if you’re in Koenji. The place seats only 12 so be early if you don’t want to wait. Deep fried egg with tempura crumbs on a bed of rice. Tempura served piece by piece as they are done. It rarely gets any better than this.

My friend recommended this place to me. Hands down my favorite meal during my Tokyo trip! The restaurant had a really traditional vibe. Chefs were really nice and cute. They fry the tempuras one by one and put it on your plate, get the set with the egg on the rice and you won’t regret!

I had the egg tempura set! I’ve tried fukamachi and yamanoue but this place is as great as those fancy tempura restaurants. This restaurant buzzed with excited energy and was comfortably full with seemingly satisfied guests like myself;)

Favorite tempura tendon place in Tokyo. Come here every time I’m in japan. Must try. Lines are not too long. But rush hour def need to wait at least half an hour.

Such a cool place. The owner who is the main guy cooking is the nicest guy you ever met. Let him suggest and follow his advice. Fantastic place we will never forget and will revisit. Highly recommended for un-fancy but delicious tempura in a locals only kind of space.

Highly recommend the Tamago Lunch set. Comes with a tempura egg and around 7 pieces of seafood and veg. Expect to wait around half an hour but it is worth it.

Nobu (not THE Nobu, but in the specialty of tempura he might as well be! ) runs a wonderful small counter where he presides over your personal experience with panache; flinging eggs shells high in the air while maintain delightful conversation with every awe struck patron. He encourages you to take the set meal - and I agree. The tempura fried egg is spectacular and depending on season I loved the tempura pumpkin. A Tokyo must!

Incredible tempura with a very friendly atmosphere. I recommend the set menu (their most popular dish). We went back again at the end of our trip we enjoyed it so much! Worth a wait if there’s a queue.

Very affordable for lunch - 1500 yen for the top set. There’s a lot of tempura and you get a bowl of rice. This place is known for their egg tempura which is quite rare. Make sure you arrive at least 30 min early so you get in the first wave! Highly recommended :)

Amazing tempura and extra friendly staff. We had to wait a bit outside, as the space inside is limited to 12 seats at the counter, but the food was worth the wait! One of the chefs speaks english, so he explained us the choices and what was being served. We had 2 full dinner sets and a beer, and paid an honest total of ¥3800. Plenty of delicious food to make anyone happy!

Best tempura I've ever tried in my life. So fresh, so delicious. The egg tempura is so simple, but amazingly good. Egg tempura set costs 1600 yen. You get 7 pieces of tempura and the famous egg tempura. So good ! The chef can speak good English. Nice friendly guy, a bit perfectionist, and like doing performance with the egg.

I ate the Tamago lunch set. The fried egg with their secret sauce on rice is to die for. The other tempura are also really good. Get there earlier because i queued for more than half an hour. It was worth it though: )

I did not know tempura can be so good. Fluffy and crispy on the outside and not overly cooked on the inside, doused in a perfectly balanced sweet sweet sauce. This place is amazing! We came at 5.30pm before it opened at 6pm on a weekday and we were the first in line. The restaurant is a tiny 12 bar seater where you can see the chef working his magic. This chef is particularly humorous, putting on a show for us cracking eggs. We ordered the popular egg set which has rice, miso soup, pickles, fried egg and 7 pieces of tempura (prawn, squid, capsicum, pumpkin, eggplant, white fish and prawn cake). All this for just ¥1800 per person! I saw them make other plates, there was one where they put avocado and urchin in that sushi seaweed, then coated it in batter and deep fried. I got good envy immediately. Too bad I was too full top order that as an add on. I highly recommend this place, they speak good English too.

This place is a can’t miss if you’re in Koenji! 2000 yen for dinner set. The highlight was the fried egg! The older man working there is very funny and welcoming to foreigners.Ask for 2 fried eggs if you can.

First time I see and try an egg tempura. Food is good, portion is good. Owner/chef is nice to put up a show of breaking egg. $1500yen is good value.

Very small hole in the wall with maybe 10 seats max? Enjoyed my meal but I may have bitten off more that I could chew. Near the end I was feeling pretty stuffed with tempura but still had a whole bowl of rice to eat. I stuffed it down because everyone else in my vicinity finished theirs. Maybe next time I shouldn’t fall into peer pressure but still, #noregrets

This hidden tempura spot in koenji is having a very interesting review so i decided to go to give it a try. I came early for dinner to avoid a long queue but it turned out to be that the place is already packed. The famous 1600Â¥ course began with a showmanship of the tempura chef, throwing the eggshells with Magic Johnson like no-look pass ! The egg tempura is good, with the outer part is crispy while the inner is still runny. They made the tempura one by one and it is very hard to wait for them to complete without eating them as soon as they are served on your plate ! They made theour own soy sauce and it is a good condiment for dipping the tempura. The owner speaks english though, so do not worry about any language difficulty when ordering.

The experience my friends and I had at this place was fantastic! The shop is small, so there was a line outside, but walking through those doors was worth the wait. The chef was fantastic, full of hospitality, and eager to chat with us and show off his skills. If you aren't sure what to get, don't be afraid to ask; trust the chef's recommendation! For ¥1300 (~$16.25 AUD), we had the a 7 course egg tempura masterpiece, featuring masterfully prepared prawn, squid, fish, bell peppers, and much more. The miso soup was a fantastic complement to the dish, and the pickled vegetables made for a great crispy morsel to devour off the end of yet another steaming hot scrap of goodness.All in all, we left with full stomachs, smiles on our faces and money to spare. Fantastic time, will be returning!

Best Tempura meal I've ever had. The head chef (owner) is friendly and welcoming. It'd be too complicated to order so we had an Egg set as offered and recommended. The Egg with their sauce were incredible! After the egg, chefs deep fried then served and introduced the other 6 tempuras one by one. The timing was just right after another, letting us enjoy the food at its best. We went for a dinner so we didn't mind the smell on our clothes.

This is the second dinner I have after eating BBQ Beef at 肉合戰。The tempura cooked in front of you and it is the only store provide egg tempura. The egg yolk supplements the taste of the rice. Worth a try and good technique of the cooking skills. The chef (believe to be the owner of the store) is the core chef to cook for you. Special uni tempura needs to order separately. Pair with the avocado and packed with seaweed, the uni tempura is excellent. A lot of people are queuing outside the store to wait for a seat to eat (including Japanese), so, it is an excellent store.

Authentic, informal, with nothing but the best tempura. Just ask (English is O.K. with the chef — he and the staff are all friendly and very accommodating) for the standard course and you'll get a nice assortment: bell pepper, shrimp, pumpkin, squid, aubergine, shiro-ebi (a tempura-bound cluster of many tiny shrimp), white fish, tempura egg on a bed of rice with sweet soy sauce, all topped off with a small cup of matcha (green powder tea) and a bowl of miso soup. This and a small bottle of sake all for less than $25. Rice bowl sets and other à la carte items are also available. Being there a half hour early on a Saturday night was enough to put me first in line for first seating. It's in a nice neighborhood that is bustling and eclectic without the High Street feel of Ginza and with no overtones of being a tourist area - it's real shops for real locals.

The type of place you wish you could visit every day.This place is a combination of local hole-in-the-wall atmosphere, friendly owner, and outstanding food.The lunch meal was perfect including: pickles (tsukemono), small donburi, red miso soup, and many seasonal pieces of tempura. The owner is super friendly and is really there to make you feel welcome and fulfilled.The places is small and only seats about 10 but don’t worry, they won’t rush you but it still moves fast. Either way, even if you have to wait, 100% worth it!The menu isn’t in English but they speak more than enough, do like I did and just ask for what they recommend, you won’t go wrong!

We had their egg tempura lunch and it was SO DELICIOUS. It's a small place that sits a bar of maybe 15 people so there's always a wait. The chef is hilarious and did tricks for our videos. Definitely will be going back there.

A superb tempura bar. Essentially just a counter, I came across it by chance, one rainy lunchtime, and managed to grab the only free seat. I had the recommended set menu, inc about 6 pieces of tempura, some soup, and a bowl of rice with an egg. Well worth queuing for!
